Tractor Operator

This is a Career-Seasonal position and subject to release and recall procedures. A permanent career-seasonal position includes all the benefits of permanent employment, but does not provide employment on a full year-round basis. As such, selectee will be in a non-pay/non-duty status for at least 2 weeks to 6 months per year based on project requirements or weather conditions. Selectee is guaranteed to work at least 6 months per year but not more than 50 weeks per year. It is anticipated that this position will be in non-pay status four (4) pay periods. The typical season for this Tractor Operator position is February through December, but can be variable during these months due to project requirements or weather conditions. The primary duty station for this position is Big Meadows Maintenance Area on Skyline Drive; however, during winter operations, the employee may be required to report to Park Headquarters near Luray, VA. The primary purpose of this position is to operate tractors with attachments, in mowing road shoulders, slopes, and administrative roads. Other duties assigned include:
Applying herbicides. Assist the park's tree worker in cutting hazardous trees and low hanging limbs. Assist the Equipment Operators with projects when they operate heavy equipment to excavate, grade, remove snow and ice, pull ditches along road ways, and to cut slopes, load from stock piles or pits, landscape surfaces, cleans rock slides, and hauls equipment and material. Operate tractors and mowers for long periods. May lift items that weigh 50 to 100 pounds. Works outside and inside and is exposed to hot, humid, and/or extremely cold weather. The employee is required to possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License or acquire one within six months of employment. The employee must possess a State of Virginia pesticide/herbicide category 60 registered technician or acquire one within six months of employment. PARK LOCATION:
Shenandoah National Park is located in Virginia, approximately 90 miles southwest of Washington, D.C. The park consists of approximately 197,000 acres of land, including 80,000 acres designated as wilderness. It also contains 105 miles of Skyline Drive and 101 miles of the Appalachian Trail. Annual visitation is around 1.3 million, which has direct and extensive economic impact on the surrounding area (eight counties and nine municipalities). The park's natural, cultural and recreational resources are of vital interest to local and regional businesses, political leaders, conservation and outdoor recreation organizations, and the Commonwealth of Virginia. Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
